Suissa study has high hopes for plant-ant partnerships - EurekAlert


Jacob Suissa, assistant professor in UT's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, was part of a team that published findings in Nature Communications about the evolutionary timeline and underlying factors of an interspecies partnership between non-flowering ferns and ants. The team discovered that nectaries evolved in ferns and flowering plants around the same time, countering the longheld belief that ferns lack the nectaries for complex biotic interactions.
