Self-similar fractal stress is more suitable for destructive scenario earthquake simulation - EurekAlert

Rupture dynamics play a crucial role in scenario earthquake simulations. The effect of stress heterogeneity during rupture propagation is significant and cannot be overlooked. Self-similar fractal stresses are essential for characterizing the stress heterogeneity in destructive scenario earthquakes. Unlike the horizontal homogeneous model, whose source time functions are similar to that of the Haskell model, the results of self-similar stress models align more closely with actual earthquake results.
