Lessons in chemistry: Guo aims at fundamental understanding of emerging semiconductor material - EurekAlert


Despite the growing use of metal halid perovskites as a low-cost, highly efficient semiconducting materal, a fundamental understanding of their properties remains hazy.  Yinsheng Guo, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, recently was awarded a five-year $648,335 grant from the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development Program to study the material and possibly develop new materials and new applications. Along the way, Guo aims to change how students approach physical chemistry. He says too many approach the science with an exam-oriented mentality without recognizing chemistry as the central science and physical foundation for advancement in science, technolology, engineering and mathematics.
