In the 1970s NASA assumed space tourism was imminent. The space shuttle was to launch so often that NASA would have to fill all the seats. The Office of Spaceflight considered two ideas: fly journalists, to report back, or “Unique Personalities,” including politicians, celebrities, and educators.
