Either harsh or benign climate could drive the shift of iconic transport route known as the ancient Silk Road - EurekAlert
A new study led by Prof. Jianhui Chen from Lanzhou University looked for the role of climate change in influencing spatial changes in ancient civilizations. They demonstrated two distinct ways in which climate change drove the spatial evolution of human civilization, including: (ⅰ) the destructive effects of cooling/drying on local environments and communities, and (ⅱ) the threat posed by warming/wetting on geopolitical stability. Their study was published in the Science Bulletin.
