Will the 2024 Olympic Games become the playing field for social justice protests? - EurekAlert


Yannick Kluch, a professor of recreation, sport and tourism at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studies social justice protests and political activism in Olympic and collegiate sports. He served as an expert on the Team USA Council on Racial and Social Justice, which found that punishing Olympic athletes for peaceful protests such as gestures on the podium violated their freedom of expression. He is also the lead author on a new paper that examined the International Olympic Committee's Rule 50 and the myth of political neutrality in Olympic sports.
