Wild and Domestic Ungulates: Key to Mediterranean Ecosystem Sustainability - EurekAlert


<p>A new study in southeast Spain underscores the distinct roles of wild and domestic ungulates in shaping vegetation dynamics, emphasizing the importance of preserving traditional transhumant grazing and monitoring abandoned agroforestry areas.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Researchers used satellite images to create a time series showing primary productivity and vegetation biomass in landscapes with different ungulate compositions. Based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), these findings revealed distinct productivity and vegetation patterns over 30 years.</p>
