What waves know about their surroundings - EurekAlert
We often use waves to learn about our environment - for example ultrasound waves in medicine or radar waves in aeronautics. But how exactly does a wave contain information? Scientists at TU Wien and the University of Cote d'Azur in Nice have now shown: Not all of the wave contains the same information. Information in the wave travels according to very specific laws. This allows to create tailored waves or taylored detectors to obtain information in the best way possible.
