VST Traces History of Unusual Elliptical Galaxy

A giant elliptical galaxy called NGC 3640 has engulfed several smaller galaxies in the past, according to an analysis of data from ESO’s VLT Survey Telescope (VST) at Paranal Observatory in Chile.
