UZ Brussels - VUB receive €2.5 million for research into pioneering cancer treatment technique - EurekAlert

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel and UZ Brussel have been awarded a €2.5 million grant to further research FLASH radiation. This new technique means that a cancer patient needs to be treated with radiation only once, instead of dozens of time. The research will first be offered to people with skin cancer, rectal cancer and sarcomas. VUB’s Research Centre for Digital Medicine and the Radiotherapy department at UZ Brussel, led by Prof Mark De Ridder and Prof Thierry Gevaert, have received the prestigious grant for large-scale research infrastructure from the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). It will enable the Radiotherapy department to offer the new treatment in Belgium within a year.
