UC Irvine-led team uncovers 'vigorous melting' at Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier - EurekAlert
In a paper to be published Monday, May 20, in PNAS (under embargo until 3 p.m. Eastern that day), a research team led by glaciologists at the University of California, Irvine show evidence of warm ocean water intruding kilometers beneth grounded ice at Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica. The findings suggest that existing climate models are underestimating the impact of ocean and ice interactions in future sea level rise projections.
