Toward testing the quantum behavior of gravity: A photonic quantum simulation - EurekAlert

An international team of researchers has achieved a significant goal in preparation for future experiments in the quest to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity. By leveraging cutting-edge techniques from quantum optics, they demonstrate a simulation of gravity-mediated entanglement using photons, shedding light on this phenomenon which will test the elusive (quantum or classical) nature of gravity. This research, published in Advanced Photonics Nexus, clarifies concepts for future experimental tests. Quantum gravity theories predict that gravity can lead to the creation of entanglement between two masses, while current theories with classical gravity do not predict this effect.
