The big lesson from past pandemics? Avoid panic-buying, says new Concordia research - EurekAlert

Ina new paper published in Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Xiaodan Pan, an associate professor in the Department of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management at the John Molson School of Business, and her co-authors examined hand sanitizer sales from the United States spanning a 10-year period from 2008 to 2017. They looked at sales before, during and after the 2009-10 H1N1 swine flu pandemic and found that both consumers and retailers were able to adapt their behaviour strategically following the initial shock of the pandemic being declared. Their conclusions provide recommendations for policy-makers and others for future pandemics.
