Storage, form, and influencing factors of karst inorganic carbon in a carbonate area in China - EurekAlert

Based on the national river ion concentration data, the team of Xiaoyong BAI, a researcher from the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, used random forest algorithm and thermodynamic dissolution model to quantify the order of magnitude of karst inorganic carbon sinks in carbonate rock distribution areas in China, and to clarify its temporal and spatial pattern. At the same time, the research team quantified the contribution of temperature (MAT), precipitation (MAP), evapotranspiration (ET), soil moisture (SM) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) to carbonate rock chemical weathering carbon sink fluxes (CCSF). The research results were published in the third issue of "China Science: Earth Science" in 2024.
