Single-cell transcriptomic Atlas of aging macaque ocular outflow tissues - EurekAlert

This study presents a single-cell transcriptomic atlas of aging trabecular meshwork (TM) tissues from macaques. By using single-cell RNA sequencing, the research explores the molecular and cellular changes associated with aging in ocular outflow tissues. The findings reveal significant alterations in cell types and gene expression, particularly highlighting mitochondrial dysfunction as a key feature of TM aging. The study identifies 12 cell subtypes and provides insights into the role of the APOE gene in aging, suggesting potential therapeutic targets for age-related ocular diseases like glaucoma.
