Scientists have uncovered why the largest great ape to ever live, Gigantopithecus blacki, went extinct


Written by Alex Smith Gigantopithecus blacki, a giant ape that lived in southeast Asia, is the largest hominoid that ever lived. Weighing up to 300 kilograms and measuring up to 10 feet tall, its remains can be found in caves across Southern China — dating from around 2 million to 300 thousand years ago.
