Proteomic analysis of ferroptosis pathways re - EurekAlert

This study investigates the proteomic landscape of ferroptosis, a type of cell death characterized by lipid peroxidation and iron dependency. Through proteomic analysis, the researchers identified choline/ethanolamine phosphotransferase 1 (CEPT1) as an interacting partner of lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 3 (LPCAT3), crucial for maintaining LPCAT3 protein stability. Contrary to its known role in phospholipid synthesis, CEPT1 was found to suppress ferroptosis by interacting with phospholipases and breaking down pro-ferroptotic polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-containing phospholipids. This discovery highlights a novel function of CEPT1 in the regulation of ferroptosis.
