A recent review suggests a new way of predicting suicide: Looking at, say, blog posts, suicide notes, or therapy sessions of a suicidal person, we can identify certain linguistic features (e.g., first-person pronoun use) that predict suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
Suicidal thoughts can be predicted by use of more intensifiers and superlatives, and suicidal behaviors can be predicted by greater usage of pronouns, more nouns and prepositions, fewer modifiers....according to a review of 75 studies (280k individuals) on linguistic predictors of suicide.
