In a study published in Science Bulletin, researchers revealed the substantial burden and geographic disparities of sepsis among hospitalized non-child cancer patients in China. They found that sepsis incidence and mortality rates were relatively high, with substantial variations across regions. In-hospital sepsis incidence exhibited greater geographic variation than in-hospital case fatality and was the primary driver of variability in overall in-hospital sepsis mortality among non-child cancer patients. The findings underscore the urgent need for targeted interventions to reduce sepsis occurrence and address healthcare inequities.
