Microstructure, elastic/mechanical and thermal properties of CrTaO4: A new thermal barrier material? - EurekAlert

<p><em>Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) have shown outstanding mechanical properties beyond 1200 ℃, which are promising for high temperature extreme environment applications such as in gas turbines. Most importantly, some RHEAs exhibit good oxidation resistance through the formation of protective CrTaO4. </em><em>Despite the vast reports on the oxidation behavior of RHEAs, the mechanical and thermal properties of rarely encountered CrTaO4 have yet to be studied, and filling this research gap is imperative since this complex oxide has been overlooked for decades.</em></p>
