Meridional deflection of global eddy propagation derived from tandem altimetry: Mechanism and implication - EurekAlert


In a paper published in Science China Earth Sciences, two scientists present evidence from both satellite and field measurements that the meridional deflection pattern of oceanic eddies is geographically correlated rather than polarity determined as previously thought. The geostrophic adjustment, thermal fading, and flow dragging are the principal mechanisms for the observed eddy deflection.
