Magnetar Flares May Be Responsible for Creation and Distribution of Gold and Other Heavy Elements


Astronomers from Columbia University and elsewhere have calculated that a single flare from a magnetar can produce the mass equivalent of 27 moons’ worth of these elements in one go.
