Searching for Martian Life in Samples Collected by NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover
Perseverance carries a small microphone that, if all goes well, will record the sounds of the descent and the martian environment, something no Mars probe has achieved. Space agencies have many thousands of images of planetary exploration but precious little in the way of alien soundtracks.
Martian dust storms may glow in the dark. New research suggests that due to Mars' lower air pressure, electrical charges don't build up enough to form long bolts of lightning like on Earth. Instead, martian dust storms might bristle with tiny sparks that make the thick, violent clouds glow purple.
