Is there an association between HPV vaccination and anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis? - EurekAlert

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate (Anti-NMDA) receptor encephalitis, an uncommon autoimmune disorder, has been linked to various vaccinations. This study investigates the potential association between HPV vaccination and anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis through microRNA (miRNA) biomarkers. Results reveal a higher similarity in miRNA biomarkers between HPV and anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, suggesting a potential connection. Although the risk of HPV triggering encephalitis appears low, the study emphasizes the need for vigilance. Individuals experiencing psychiatric or neurological symptoms post-HPV vaccination should be assessed for anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, considering the exclusion of other complications.
