High-performance terahertz modulators induced by substrate field in Te-based all-2D heterojunctions - EurekAlert

The emerging mono-elemental tellurium nanofilms with unique helical chain structure have been introduced as a new class of optically controlled terahertz modulators to successfully promote the device performances to the optimal levels among the existing all two-dimensional broadband modulators. Moreover, the substrate-induced effect and photoexcited charge dynamics mechanism have been uncovered in tellurium-based heterostructures through photoresponse measurement and first-principles calculations. This advances the fundamental and applicative research of tellurium nanomaterials in high-performance terahertz optoelectronics.
