From theory to practice: Study demonstrates high CO2 storage efficiency in shale reservoirs using fracturing technology - EurekAlert
A recent study published in <em>Engineering</em> reveals the significant carbon storage potential of shale reservoirs using CO2 fracturing technology. CO2 fracturing is an effective method that can not only enhance oil recovery but also promote large amounts of CO2 storage. By utilizing numerical simulation,, the study shows that CO2 adsorption and diffusion play crucial roles in long-term storage within shale formations. The findings suggest an 80.15% storage efficiency over a decade, with projections indicating substantial CO2 storage potential by 2030. This research contributes to China’s goals of energy independence and carbon neutrality.
