Fast radio burst, a rolling cosmic dice - EurekAlert

In a paper published in Science Bulletin, a team led by Professor Di Li from NAOC has introduced an novel approach to characterize active Fast Radio Bursts’ (FRB) behavior in the time-energy phase space. Their method quantifies FRBs’ randomness and chaos in the context of a slew of representative transient phenomena. FRBs are found to be distinct from earthquakes in that they are more random, but less chaotic, akin to Brownian motions. FRBs’ emission thus seems to result from a combination of multiple mechanisms or locations.
