Extreme Exoplanet – An Ultra-Hot Jupiter Where It Rains Iron – Even More Exotic Than Originally Thought

An international team of astronomers have detected ionized calcium in the atmosphere of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b for the first time. This detection suggests that the planet is much hotter than expected from radiative equilibrium and/or that the planet has strong vertical atmospheric winds.
