Walter Maunder

Edward Walter Maunder was an English astronomer. His study of sunspots and the solar magnetic cycle led to his identification of the period from 1645 to 1715 that is now known as the Maunder Minimum.

In the late 19th century, the Royal Greenwich Observatory hired a team of 'lady computers' who studied data from the Sun, sunspots, and magnetic storms. One of them, Annie, married the head of the Solar department, Walter Maunder, and together they mapped patterns of sunspots over time
