Eros

In Greek mythology, Eros is the Greek god of love and sex. His Roman counterpart was Cupid. In the earliest account, he is a primordial god, while in later accounts he is described as one of the children of Aphrodite and Ares and, with some of his siblings, was one of the Erotes, a group of winged love gods.

SpaceX launches EROS-C3 observation satellite from Vandenberg

20 years ago today, NEAR Shoemaker landed on Eros, becoming the first spacecraft in history to touch down on an asteroid. The spacecraft launched, reached, and landed on Eros (named after the Greek god of love) during Valentine’s week in 1996, 2000, and 2001, respectively.
