Efficient hydrogenolysis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural over Ni-C3N4 catalysts - EurekAlert


Selective hydrogenolysis of biomass-based platform compounds is of great importance for the production of a series of chemicals and fuels. A Ni-C3N4/HC catalyst with ultra low Ni loading (0.86 wt.%) is reported for the effecient hydrogenolysis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF). The unique Ni3N species is identified as the active component responsible for the excellent catalytic activity and selectivity.
