Corrosion behavior of Gd2Zr2O7 thermal barrier coatings under Fe-containing environmental sediment attack - EurekAlert

Environmental sediments mainly consisting of CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 (CMAS) corrosion is a series threat to thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), in which Fe element is usually ignored. However, Fe significantly influences the melting, adhesion, spreading, infiltration, and other behavior of these sediments. In this study, we focus on the Fe-rich environmental sediments (CMAS-Fe) investigation, exploring the impact of Fe on CMAS-Fe glass skeleton and its destruction to novel Gd2Zr2O7 TBCs.
