Control of temperature dependent viscosity for manufacturing of Bi-doped active fiber - EurekAlert

How to prevent the deactivation of Bi dopants during fiber fabrication?

In last issue of International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing, IJEM, Prof. Shifeng Zhou, Dr. Xu Feng, Rui Duan and coworkers from South China University of Technology link the temperature dependent viscosity of the glass materials to the activation and deactivation of the Bi dopant at several temperature ranges.

Their work represents an important step towards understanding the evolution of Bi dopant at different temperature in glass systems with different viscous character and provides a novel strategy to maintain the activation of Bi dopants during fiber fabrication process.
