Building better infrastructure for climate resilience - EurekAlert


UBC Okanagan researchers, led by Dr. Shahria Alam, are developing sustainable solutions to enhance infrastructure resilience against climate change. Their work focuses on advanced materials, such as ultra-high-performance concrete and high-strength steel reinforcements, to create structures with lifespans of up to 200 years. They also explore sustainable retrofitting methods for existing infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of lifecycle costs and innovative materials like wood fly ash. This research aims to mitigate the impact of climate change on essential infrastructure, like BC's highways and bridges.
