Breaking data transmission barriers: Innovations in data center interconnects - EurekAlert

Data centers serve as critical hubs for modern information technology infrastructure. Within these centers, data center interconnects play a vital role in facilitating communication between components. However, the demand for high-resolution digital-to-analog converters (DACs) poses cost challenges. Researchers reporting in Advanced Photonics Nexus proposed an innovative solution that combines look-up-table-based pre-distortion with digital resolution enhancement. This approach enables record-breaking data transmission rates, exceeding 124 GBd PAM-4/6 and 112 GBd PAM-8 over short distances. This innovation will help achieve high data rates with low-cost DACs. Beyond data centers, these advancements hold promise for 6G networks and optical systems.
