Autophagy in pancreatitis - EurekAlert

A new review has highlighted the critical role of autophagy in preventing pancreatitis. Pancreatic acinar cells rely on autophagy for organelle and protein homeostasis. Disabling autophagy in mice leads to ER stress, trypsinogen activation, and spontaneous pancreatitis. The authors summarizes the mechanisms by which impaired autophagy contributes to cerulein and alcohol-induced pancreatitis, suggesting autophagy as a potential therapeutic target.
