A review of the applications of mercury stable isotopes for tracing volcanism in the geologic events - EurekAlert

In a paper published in Science China Earth Sciences, a Chinese team make a review of the applications of mercury (Hg) stable isotopes used for tracing volcanism, especially large igneous province (LIP) eruptions in the mass extinctions, ocean anoxic events and other geologic events. They summarize the different origins, characteristics and influencing factors of Hg enrichments and Hg isotopes in the geologic record, as well as the existing problems and future prospects in such studies.
