"Twisters" draws from storm-chasing science led by Nebraska expert - EurekAlert

University of Nebraska-Lincoln scientist Adam Houston, who studies tornadoes and supercell thunderstorms, has made a career as a real-life storm chaser. He was among scientists and weather experts nationwide who were contacted by "Twisters" director Lee Isaac Chung as he prepared to begin filming in early 2023. In interviews, Chung has described climate scientists as "the real superheroes."  Movie trailers feature a fixed-wing drone that closely resembles "RAAVEN," the uncrewed aircraft developed by University of Colorado Boulder aerospace engineering professors for use in the TORUS, (Targeted Observation by Radars and UAS of Supercells) research project involving multiple institutions in the Great Plains region.
