Metformin lowers copper and iron and raises zinc in diabetes patients, hinting metals may explain its broad benefits


A Kobe University study found that type 2 diabetes patients taking metformin had lower blood copper and iron levels but higher zinc. These shifts support the idea that metformin’s ability to bind metals may underlie its glucose-lowering effect.
