Hydrogen bonding in water under extreme confinement


A new technique allows direct nanoscale observations of the vibrational response of water confined inside carbon nanotubes, revealing that high degrees of confinement disrupt the hydrogen bond network through a fluctuating and highly-dispersed molecular state.
